I try really hard to teach my boys to give others the benefit of doubt, to weigh all options before forming an opinion and not to light their own candle by blowing someone else's out. I also teach them that if someone is not treating them right, then it is their right to defend themselves...Lord knows they practice this all.the.time with one another. Case in point, I recieved a phone call from my oldest son's teacher. She told me that during class he had to read a story out loud to the class that he had written. There is a girl in his class that I suspect has had a tough life..anyway, after he had finished reading his story, she said to him, in front of the whole class, "that is the worst story I have heard all day."
My thought? How dare you, you little snot.
My son's response? "Well N,...YOUR story was the BEST one I have heard."
His teacher said it made her cry. It made me cry too. I am so proud of him.
